



OUR HISTORY
Early 1900s – Franciscan Mission Roots
Franciscan priests begin serving the rural Catholic families of El Modena in Orange, California. The area becomes a hub for immigrant and farming communities.
1924 – La Purísima Parish Established
La Purisima Catholic Church is formally founded, becoming a spiritual home to diverse communities including refugees from the Mexican Revolution and, later, the Vietnamese diaspora.
1965 – School Established
La Purisima Catholic School is founded under the leadership of the Sisters of the Company of Mary, Our Lady. The school opens with six classrooms: Grades 1 through 4, with double classes in Grades 1 and 2.
1972 – Expansion to Grade 8
Double classrooms are phased out. The school extends its educational offerings to include Grades 5 through 8, completing its full elementary and junior high program.
1977 – Kindergarten Added
A kindergarten program is introduced, providing early education rooted in Catholic values.
1987 – Preschool Program Launched
A new wing is constructed to accommodate a growing need for early childhood education. The preschool program opens, welcoming children into a nurturing, faith-based environment.
1998 – Transition of Leadership
After 33 years of service, the Sisters of the Company of Mary conclude their direct administration of the school.
1999 – First Lay Principal Appointed
La Purisima Catholic School welcomes its first lay principal, who continues to lead the school in the spirit and educational philosophy of St. Jeanne de Lestonnac.
Today – Continuing the Mission
La Purisima Catholic School serves students from Preschool through 8th Grade, remaining committed to academic excellence, faith formation, and community values. In partnership with the Sisters of the Company of Mary, the school honors its legacy by nurturing the hearts and minds of future generations in the Catholic tradition.
